Sauna with a local

Finnish Sauna

The Finnish sauna is a substantial part of Finnish culture. This was inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists at the 17 December 2020 meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The earliest Finnish saunas were Bronze Age (1500–900 BCE) earth saunas or pit saunas.

To the Sauna with a Local?

No one knows exactly how many saunas there are in Finland – but there are many! It is estimated that there are about 2.7 to 3.2 million. And when this number is related to the number of us Finns, which is 5.642 million, the number of saunas takes on its own significance in Finnish culture. I’m a passionate sauna lover.

Come with me to the sauna and at the same time get to know Finnish sauna culture and sauna etiquette. Is it allowed to ‘throw a hundred liters of water on the stove and then compete’ in the sauna?

Depending on your wishes, we can visit one or more saunas together. In a sauna with swimming possibilities in the sea or in a pool, or then cooling off on the street. In a wood stove sauna, a electrical sauna, or a smoke sauna. Sauna in front of the presidential palace or in the middle of nature. Or a trip with a sauna boat in the Gulf of Finland?

Get in touch and let me know your wish. You should reserve at least about 2-3 hours for the sauna session. P.S. Did you forget your swimsuit at home? No worries, it can always be rented.
